In Loving Memory: Tio Oscar

Today I woke up to the bad news my great uncle passed away. I haven't experience the death of a loved one and this really took me by surprise. If there was one thing I wish I had done was thank him for the good memories growing up. He will always be remembered fondly in my heart as a generous grandfather.

There are few memories that just never leave you. I'll always remember those Saturday mornings when Tio Oscar would take my cousin Evelin and I to "Toys R us." I had just gotten to Miami from Cuba and my parents and I had very little. He generously took us under his wing and we lived in his apartment complex for the first couple of years. At that time my grandparents were still back in Cuba, but I found a grandfather figure in him. He showed me unconditional love and a generous spirit that stayed with me forever.

I wanted to write this as a token of appreciation for his life. May he rest in peace and continue taking care of us from up in heaven. Now more than ever do I understand the saying " cherish every moment. "
